Difference between Beside and Besides.

They both are prepositions.

1. Beside means at the side of, next to, close to and near.
Beside ka matlab barabar mein.

Be=Hona
Side=Barabar mein.
Ya'ni, 'Beside' ke sath hona, barabar mein hona.

Examples:

A. He lives beside the station.
B. Does your friend sit in the class beside you?
C. Have you placed your chair beside him?
D. You can use Beside before the following nouns:

Beside the chair, beside the table, beside him/her, beside the almirah, etc.

* Beside is used for comparison as well.
Mawaznah karne ke liye bhi Beside likh-te hain.

Examples:

E. Her painting is amiable beside the others.
Uski painting nisbatan dosron ke shandar hai.

F. His spoken English is poor beside his friend.
Uski English bol chal uske dost ki nisbat ach-chi nahin.

2. Besides means except, apart from or in addition to.
Is ka matlab 'ke elavah ya ke sath' hai.

Examples:

G. What do you study besides learning English?
Tum English seekh-ne ke elavah kya parhte ho?

H. Who other boys does he play cricket with besides you?
Tumhare elavah woh aur kin larkon ke sath cricket khelta hai?

I. I have my own business besides this job.
Mere karobar hai is kaam ke elavah.

* Besides is also an adverb. And it gives the sense of furthermore, also or and another thing.
Yeh aik adverb bhi hai jiske ma'ni mazeed, bhi aur aik aur cheez ke bante hain.

Examples:

J. He left in haste, besides it was getting late.
Woh jaldi mein chala gaya, use dair bhi ho rahi thi.

K. He plays cricket only, besides he doesn't like other games much.
Woh sirf cricket khelta hai, aur use doosre khelon me ziyadah dilchaspi nahin.
